Easy 2 Ingredient Foaming Hand Soap

Want an affordable, hassle-free alternative to store-bought hand soap? Try our homemade DIY 2-ingredient foaming hand soap! Made with just water and Castile soap, it’s a simple, effective, and budget-friendly option. Skip the store and enjoy clean hands with ease!

Making your own hand soap is not only cost effective but you can control exactly what ingredients are put in it. Depending on the cost of the Castile soap you use, you can make a 10 oz bottle for as little as $1 or under!

Supplies / Ingredients

Castile Soap
Dr. Bronners makes a liquid Castile soap that is unscented and great for a gentle foaming hand soap. They also have an assortment of scented Castile soap that can be used as well, depending on your preference. The benefit of purchasing unscented is that you can leave it as is, for those that are sensitive to scents, or you can change up the scent of your soap whenever you want by adding in your own essential oils.

Water
When making your own hand soap it is recommended to use distilled water. I personally just use our filtered reverse osmosis water.

Dispenser
There are a variety of dispensers that you can use, but make sure you have a foaming dispenser! Check out below for my recommendations.

Essential Oils (optional)
If you like scent you can add anything you’d like to make it your own.

FAQ

What type of dispenser do I need?
When making foaming hand soap you need to make sure you have the correct soap dispenser. When picking out a soap dispenser you need to make sure you have one that is specifically for foaming hand soap as it will mix air into the soap mixture to create the foaming soap.

To save money, if you have purchased foaming soap from the store you can simply reuse that bottle when making your own. Or if you are looking to stay away from the plastic containers, this is a great glass option.

We have younger kids and I noticed it was harder for my youngest to fully press down the pump to get the soap out so I purchased this automatic foaming dispenser and it is amazing! I know they are always getting the right amount of soap.

Can I use tap water?
Most places will say it’s best to use distilled water when possible, but we just use our reverse osmosis filtered water. You can use tap water as well but depending on your water source it could make your foaming hand soap go cloudy in the container due to the minerals in the water.

Can I make scented soap?
Yes! One of the benefits to making your own soap is that you can choose whichever scent you would like by just adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils when making your soap.

When you start looking at what is in our food it just doesn’t make sense. Most homemade things cost less, taste better and are much healthier for you. For our grandparents generation and before making everything at home was the norm. We have become so disconnected from our food and how it’s made. Now it’s about convenience and quality ingredients take the back seat. I love seeing so many people being drawn back to making things from scratch.
Get your herbs and greens from the garden preserve Get your herbs and greens from the garden preserved and ready to use year round. Whether you just have a dehydrator or a freeze drier, both work perfectly to preserve your harvest.

Past years I have only dehydrated our herbs and they still come out amazing, full of flavor and color compared to store bought. This year we have a freeze drier so we are doing all of our greens in there to better preserve the flavor and nutrients.
